Catchphrase

I coach an under 18 side and this year we lost the Prelim by 2 points on a kick after the siren. The team that beat us won the GF by 7 goals.(Therapy has been going well and I have managed to put the razor blades away now ). I am coaching again and half of the side are still U18 and a good bunch of boys from our U16 are coming through. (They lost the GF this year but to a much better side).

I want to get some ideas for our slogan for 2010. I fully intend to get them to take ownership next year and come up with something but I would like to see if anyone else has some slogans that they may have used. I don't really want to be another "Unfinished Business" running around in preseason, but if that really hits their spot then so be it. I would appreciate something that you guys may have used or seen in the past just so I can offer them some other ideas. If I aksed the 18 year olds to come up with something really important to them it would probably have something to do with girls or cars !!!

Forum: Football Coaching

fitness advice for off-season

Hi everyone i was wondering what would be some good fitness drills/guidelines to go by in the off-season to ensure that players are in the best shape for the start of the next pre-season. I'm gonna be trying out for an SANFL senior team at the start of the next pre-season and was wondering if anyone had advice about what to do in the off-season. I'm going to be doing a weights session in the gym 3 times a week starting on a beginner program, then building muscle mass, then training for strength over the course of the off-season and pre-season.

Forum: Football Coaching

new to coaching

Hello everyone. I am a a former U.S. player who is now looking to break into coaching. I played for 7 years before injuries forced me to retire. i have played almost every position, but mostly switched between Fullback and Full Forward. I was able to become an assistant coach for my team here in the U.S. and was looking for some coaching and strategy materials, preferably books that i can bring to training nights. any help would be greatly appreciated.

Thanks,
Greg

Forum: Football Coaching

Shaking a Tag

I am a coach of an U18 side and we have some very good midfielders who are finding themselves with a decent tag for the first time. We are hoping to play finals this year and almost certainly these boys will have to deal with a tagger. These boys are quite skillful, pretty quick, but a bit of a smaller frames.

Apart from the standard, " run the tagger of their legs" has any one got any strategies for dealing with a tag.

Forum: Football Coaching

Do you believe under 11s should receive equal game time to improve skills for later life, or should clubs have a win at all costs attitude and only play the best by leaving the less skilled players on the bench for most of the game?

We have 27 kids in this side.
Forum: Football Coaching

midfield rotation

Just wondering if anyone has some idea's on rotation.
i have 2 ruckman that rotate on bench, go for about 6 min
i have fp and r/rover rotate , there football ability is far greater so i dont rest them.permanent position are ff,hf,chf position.
then hf/rover/ bench rotate every 4 mins, thats there time they suggested
then fp/centre/bench same as above.
but what there saying is there should be a 2 man rotation, so they can have more game time, but that leaves players on bench with no game time, but my meathod is rotate to finish game running, and my ruckman want to rest deep, but that makes forward line to slow with them there, and have rested them forward last 2 weeks with no goals coming from them so i think its a waste of time them being there.
but in saying all this we are on top after 5 rounds, and underfeated, so is my theory right or should i tinker it a bit to satisfy the players.
any suggestion's would be great.

Forum: Football Coaching

kicking

Hey sorry if anyone is annoyed that this isnt a coaching tip but im just looking 4 some tips i can use...

I have been told i wave the ball before i kick it and it slows down my kicking speed which can cause me to get ran down when i shouldnt... (Im left footed) the way i wave the ball is i start the ball on my right and form a semi-circle by lifting the ball up and around to kick it... in my kicking action i lift the ball and turn the nose of the ball up and then bring it back down to kick it, i have been also told that it lowers my consistancy of my kicking... if anyone can help it will be appreciated... thanks, eager to hear back!.

Forum: Football Coaching
